It is NO secret that it has TAKEN me TEN years to get my son to sleep in his own bed. YES, ten long years of getting smacked in the head by his legs, trying to not get kicked off my queen sized bed as I made room for him, our two Shih Tzus and my husband. Believe me- we tried EVERYTHING.
When he was a toddler we tucked him in with a bedtime story and more often than not fell asleep in bed with him and usually needed to extricate ourselves from his arms at which point he would wake up and follow us back into our bedroom. And as the years progressed- and he graduated to reading books to himself, counting sheep, and us doing our very best to create the comfiest sanctuary that would encourage him to SLEEP IN HIS OWN BED- we finally found a solution- create a bedroom that is just so full of tricks and treats sleeping in his own room would be more akin to being a kid in a candy store, than a kid stuck in his own bed with no warm body beside him. We always joke and say- we need to get him married off sooner than later- if for no other reason other than to get him a permanent bed buddy. But I digress.
So what did we do to FINALLY GET our kid to stay in his own bed? We put so many goodies in his room- he found it too tempting to ever want to leave! Oh and we also have a COT in his room which my husband and I take turns sleeping on so that he has a BED BUDDY for part of the night! So if you have a kid who you just cannot seem to keep in his bed- here a few designs that are SERIOUSLY SWOON WORTHY and which you can incorporate into your kid’s bedroom scheme to keep him motivated and eager to sleep on his own!
