Having a baby is so exciting, and the nesting process typically begins pretty early. If you have never had a child before, or even if you had, you may feel nervous about your level of preparedness for the baby to come home. You want to make sure that your home is completely ready for the bundle of joy with the 3 Things Every Mom Needs to Prepare For a New Baby Although every mom likes to do things her own way, which is completely fine, there are some things that every mom should have in her home to make sure the baby will be happy, healthy, and comfortable namely three things that the baby will love in your home once they get there.
A Humidifier
Many doctors suggest having humidifiers throughout the house, or at least in the babies room, for the first few years of the baby’s life. Dry air can cause a cold, dry skin, irritated nose, and sore throats. Humidifiers help get rid of that. There are two different kinds of humidifiers, warm mist and cool mist. Both work well for your baby, it just depends on your preferences.
Good Windows
It is recommended that the house remain between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit for the baby. To retain the heat in your home, or cool air, you should look into your windows. Poor quality windows can let out a lot of air. In fact, dual-paned windows are roughly two times more effective at keeping in heat and air conditioning compared to single-paned windows. To keep the temperature stable in your home for the baby, you may want to consider replacing your windows.
Noise Machine
White noise in the bedroom can help your baby sleep very well. Get yourself a noise machine, or even a box fan, to make subtle and consistent noise throughout the night. Very little can disturb your baby when their head is filled with white noise.
Being a new mom can be scary, and that’s normal. There are ways to prepare for your baby that can put you at ease. Get a humidifier, energy efficient windows, and a noise machine. The rest will fall into place when the baby comes home.
I agree! We didn’t have a sound machine with my first until she was about 6 months old and it helped a lot. It helped her rest better and gave me the freedom to go about life as usual without being so quiet all the time. Great list!
Ohh a noise machine is great! I have never had one but I can see how amazing they could truly be.
A noise machine can be a life saver. It is a must have!
I have 6 children ages 12 to 1. I have never needed or used a sound machine. I know many moms who have used it and love it. We have so much noise in our home we are the sound machine! LOL
I would have loved a white noise machine when my kids were young. I know that having white noise in the background helps me sleep.
White noise was an ESSENTIAL for our son to get to sleep when he was a baby. He couldn’t sleep without a rain or hairdryer noise. I wish that someone had told me about the humidifier, though. I had to learn that one the hard way… after our kiddo was already sick. We have several now.
We did not originally buy a humidifier and then about 3 nights in home with our son we went out and bought one. The noise machine was a must with my daughter!
Yes, on all of these things! We didn’t have new windows when my oldest was born and it was always too hot or too cold in her room. It was rather stressful making sure she was comfortable all the time. We loved the sound machine for our twins. It was a life saver for them!
I had some friends and family who had baby experience and brought me bouquets of burp cloths, boxes of granola bars and plenty of infant checklist essential.
Thanks “Melissa Chapman” for your post. I definitely agree with you and your 3 things. “Good Windows” this topic is most helpful for me and every parents
