4 Ways to Make Grocery Shopping a Family Affair and a Weight Watchers Zero Point Egg Salad Recipe

January 28, 2020 by Melissa Chapman 15 Comments

4 Ways to Make Grocery Shopping a Family Affair is written in partnership with Walmart Grocery . All opinions expressed are my own

I love the feeling of a brand new year. Another 365 days to use the wisdom you’ve gleaned from the past year and hopefully make better choices and fewer of the same mistakes. And if I’ve learned anything from last year it’s that- the handful of times I’ve involved my kids in the food prep process and yes- even had them go grocery shopping with me- well it was a learning experience in watching them take a much more vested interest in the meals our family consumed. Their interest in grocery shopping has also slowly morphed into them helping to prepare the meals and now I’m secretly hoping it will also translate into cleaning up as well. A mother can dream right?

4 Ways to Make Grocery Shopping a Family Affair and a Weight Watchers Zero Point Egg Salad Recipe

The experience got me thinking how as parents the act of grocery shopping – which we might consider a chore- can actually become a great family bonding experience with a bit of imagination and yes- the click of a mouse! Keep reading for my tips to transform the loneliness of grocery shopping into a full fledged family affair aka 4 Ways to Make Grocery Shopping a Family Affair and a Weight Watchers Zero Point Egg Salad Recipe that the kids can help prepare!

4 Ways to Make Grocery Shopping a Family Affair

#1 Shop online! Shopping for your groceries at an online destination like Walmart Grocery is not only a huge time and money-saver but the truth is- if your kids are anything like mine and attached to their tech devices at the hip they will be the first ones willing and ready to type up their choices online. And the best part for parents–Walmart Grocery is not only an easy to use online service, but it also offers a 100% money-back freshness guarantee, along with free pick-up at a local Walmart.

Simply place an order online at Walmart Grocery , choose a timeslot, and your order will be loaded directly into your car at your local Walmart, or in some markets, you can have your order delivered right to your doorstep! Seriously– what’s not to love about the prospect of having bags of groceries and bulk household items delivered right to your doorstep without having to lift a finger? And Walmart Grocery makes comparing prices on various items  whether it’s fresh produce or exotic ingredients as easy as typing in a few letters ( as opposed to schlepping up and down aisles!) Believe me- it is TOTALLY addictive- so set a budget and let your fingers do the shopping!

#2 Have your kids share their dream dinners and lunches and make it your mission to get all the ingredients at Walmart Grocery for at least a few of these recipes so that you can prepare them!

My daughter has been begging to make vegetable pad thai and so we finally logged onto Walmart Grocery  where I got those special thai noodles ( who knew!) and a secret sauce and now we have a date on the weekend to create this Thai cuisine!

#3 Have fun with new products and conduct your own taste tests. My son is all about doing those blind taste tests to see if any of us can tell the difference between the brand name items versus the generic ones. So I told him if he helped me with my Walmart Grocery  order we could conduct a few of these for ourselves.

First up- he will be trying Cinnamon Toast Crunch in milk versus  Walmart’s Great Value Cinnamon Crunch Cereal, 20.25 oz  ( Blindfolded I might add) to prove whether or not there really is a difference between the cereals!

#4 When you pick up the Walmart Grocery order ( or have it delivered) have your kids be the ones to organize them in the pantries and keep tabs on foods you are running low on and which ones you need to restock. This will give them a sense of ownership over the process and give you a chance to kick up your heels and delegate the responsibilities of this chore! And once you have all the ingredients delivered get your kids in the kitchen whipping up a meal like this Weight Watchers Recipe: Easy Zero Point Egg Salad

Oh yes please, I love egg salad. This looks scrumptious. I’ll be trying it out for sure.

I leave my family at home when I grocery shop though. It’s not a family affair for me. We tried it once and never again. My husband doesn’t get how to shop properly and the kids usually complain that they’re bored. I love going solo.

Good ideas! I think letting everyone contribute to the putting things away after picking up groceries could be both helpful and fun. I should try it!

I have never tried an online shopping for our grocery but it sounds like a great idea and can help me save my time going from and to the other side of the supermarket to get the items. I am going to try your salad recipe it looks really delicious.

Grocery shopping is always a family affair over here. And both my son and I love egg salad. I’ve never tried preparing it with dill pickle, though. Will follow your recipe next time.

I love going shopping with my kids. My youngest doesn’t like it so much, but the oldest does. It’s great when they get to help choose the food. I also think your recipe looks amazing. I’m going to have to try it.

I’m not a big fan of conventional grocery shopping. So, shopping online is a lifesaver. We have a Big Basket near my place and they deliver fresh vegetables and fruits. Also, your egg salad looks incredibly delicious!
