For height challenged moms who don’t quite hit the average five foot five and over mark- being of short stature can put a crimp in their ability to rock the trendiest styles. Unfortunately, nothing says frumpy like a five foot tall woman attempting to pull off an ankle length skirt in ballet flats unless, said woman, is planning to join an Amish community in the very near future.
But it’s not all bad news for height challenged women, in fact, if they know their body type ; the parts of their form that shine and those they’d like to draw the eye away from and dress accordingly they can pull off almost any of the hottest fashion trends with the rest of their taller counterparts. Just because you are short doesn’t mean you can’t rock a maxi dress or boot cut jeans! With a few simple fashion fixes it’s possible to rock the hottest fashions with the rest of your taller counterparts.
#1 Dress monochromatic. It could be a white/off-white combination; or a combo of grays, browns or colors. Basically creates an illusion of height (vertical) and tricks the eye into seeing a slimmer body form.
Love this Slimming ponte sheath dress with its Color-block design, textured front bodice, faux-leather cap sleeves Round neckline and Fitted waist. This Color-blocked design frames two monochromatic patterns with figure-flattering black ponte for a cutaway-shoulder sheath with day-to-night versatility.
#2 Watch the bulkiness you add to your feet. Shorter women need to think sleek, slender and not more than 2.5 or three inches because their frame has to carry what they choose to put on their feet. Short women want to draw attention all the way up, and not have the eyes stop at the shoe with a look of confusion.
Deceptively simple in its design, Rupert Sanderson’s BARRII VELVET SANDALS are a study in minimalism. With its simple silhouette – just two straps and a block heel try them with shimmering sequin dresses for a contrast of textures. Petite girls should also go for Kitten Heels, which are perfect for pairing with jeans or trousers since it will elongate the leg line and create height.
#3 Petite women can rock a maxi-dress. In order to rock any of this trend short women must ensure there is a balance between the one’s bone structure and height to the dress. As a short woman it is easy to overwhelm your frame if you choose a dress that is bulky, not pattern-friendly and doesn’t have a nice drape. In order for a maxi dress to work, the length needs to be short and it cannot be combined with a flat sandal as it may look “stumpy.” Pair a flat sandal with a feminine short dress or skirt that falls to the slimmest part of one’s knee or thigh. And when it comes to floral patterns short girls need to stick with smaller patterns that won’t overwhelm their frames.
#4 Skinny jeans and denim rules for short women. When it comes to rocking the skinny jeans petite women should pair it with a small heel. Check out my Lucky Brand Style guide: While colored jeans are a hot spring trend if you choose to sport colored jeans/trousers, make sure the rest of the outfit is understated. The friendliest jean for all body types is the boot cut, just remember to keep the top portion of your body more tailored, or you’ll create bulk.

#5 Jewelry rules for petites. Jewelry must be proportionate to your bone structure. You can find out your bone structure by measuring the circumference of your wrist. Linear earrings do a great job of elongating a neck line and a couple of layered necklaces that fall around the bust line can also elongate a petite woman’s overall look.
#6 Lightweight scarves for petites: To make a statement petite woman should wear an all cream outfit; cropped pants or flowing, short skirt with a cream sweater/knit blouse, leopard, pink or nude shoes and tie it together with a fabulous lightweight scarf to highlight their shoe choice.
