One of the reasons I began this site was to have a place to profile and feature local businesses who are offering valuable services to our Staten Island community. And one of those local businesses, POSH BABY, which has been serving our Staten Island community for several years- is ramping up their selection and offerings in a pretty significant way. In celebration of their brand new digs at the South Shore Commons at 2935 Veterans Road West-Posh Baby is hosting a MEGA party/ giveaway at the site of their new store.
On Saturday, September 3rd from 10am-6pms at their grand re-opening families will enjoy: Food, music, giveaways, and the announcement of their prizes: a $3,000 Dream Nursery, $1,500 DJ Entertainment package courtesy of Down to the felt and a Custom Photo Pendant courtesy of Casale Jewelers. Winners will be announced at 1pm by Councilman Vinny Ignizio. PLUS families will enjoy 10% off Young America and Munire Furniture all weekend! *Winner Must Be Present To Claim Their Prize.
I had the opportunity to chat up Posh Baby’s owner Elvis Kraljev a married dad, who calls his seven year old daughter Daniella his best friend—and credits her for naming his store after her favorite singer in (Posh from the Spice Girls!) and who’s been in business serving our Staten Island community since 2006.
The Staten Island Family: Why did you decide to open Posh Baby on Staten Island?
Posh baby:In 2006 I saw an opportunity on Staten Island. With M& B furniture closing down, we believed there was a large segment of the Staten Island population who still needed a store that provided customer service, and met safety standards in furniture and baby goods. In fact in 2007 were we awarded retailer innovator of the year by Kids today magazine
The Staten Island Family: What do you think distinguishes Posh Baby from the big box retailers? We know our customers by name, we know their family.
Posh Baby: To be honest, we have people who just stop by to say hello. And what’s been so nice about this move is that we’ve gotten such an outpouring of support from this community.
The Staten Island Family: What can customers expect when arriving at Posh Baby’s new location?
Posh Baby: It all comes down to cutomer service and being on top of every possible saefty guideline. I’m also a really easy going guy. Our store is perfect for pregnant woman and those with babie s. We have cribs, from brands like Young America, Munire furniture, Ragazzi, and Capretti and the reason we’ve chosen these products is because the the majority of these companies base their products’ safety ratings on the testing of third parties- so we feel like we can really stand behind them.
We’ve got the color schemes everyone loves; the espressos, hazelnut wood colored furniture the creams and we carry everything except strollers. We got cradles- and an assortment of wood products. We boast a bedding selection which includes the coveted toile pattern, from brands like Bebe Chic, Pinecreek Bedding and Nava bedding and of course we’ve got; accessories, framed pictures perfect for nurseries, personalization items- like block letters of baby’s name-diaper changing stations and of course we’ve got diaper bags from Petunia, Kalencom and Bumble Bee. We also have a full selection of twin and full size beds as well as bunk beds—we have desks-anything pertaining to teens. The bottom line is we prefer to educate our customers and help them through the selection process—especially a preganant mom to be, and make it as seamless as possible for her.
The Staten Island Family: So why choose to move and have a reopening on Staten Island?
Posh Baby: We’re moving because it’s a bigger and better space which will allow us to offer even more selections and options for our customers. What’s nice is that Posh Baby has been chosen to become a Young America signature shop and that decision was based on our community relationships. We’re committed to giving back to the community and charities- and in these tough economic times we value our clients support and this is our way of saying thank you to the community.
