I’ve been there, too: a first-time parent with a six-month-old baby cemented to my hip. I refer to that period of my son’s life as “baby limbo” when he was unable to sit up by himself much less participate in any organized program, and he and I were essentially “stuck” in the house. Each day was just a long continuation of the previous one: feedings, diaper changings, short cat naps, and I felt like the walls were slowly closing in on me. Taking him anywhere seemed like more trouble than it was worth; 13 years ago it was impossible to find a diaper-changing table in any establishment.
So I hunkered down, watched way too many talk shows and patiently counted down the hours until my husband came home from work to enjoy some adult conversation, which was really more like him watching “Seinfeld” reruns and nodding, while I poured my heart out to him about my feelings of isolation and general boredom with what I thought “or was told” were supposed to be the most blissful months of my life with my precious baby boy.
I needed to find ways to bond with my baby and my husband was instrumental in helping me to uncover all the fun we could have during diaper duty with his baby and daddy bonding tips. Whereas I saw diaper duty as a rote necessary evil my husband saw it as an opportunity to craft personalized chants to our boy and believe it or not- 13 years later we are still singing these same tunes to him. Those songs we chanted during the seemingly monotonous diaper changes- bonded us in a way that is hard to articulate- and I owe it all to my husband!
But fast forward and 2018 is a real game changer– dads are on diaper duty just as much as mom. If you’re reading this and thinking, these sentiments are echoing my inner dialogue, you’ll be happy to know there are fairly inexpensive ways to help DADS and your lil’ one out of the house, taking part in activities designed specifically with your baby in mind. Just because you have an infant doesn’t mean you have to wait until he’s walking to finally leave the house. And of course– you will always have DIAPER TIME!! Baby and Daddy Bonding Tips: Make Diaper Duty FUN
Of course the Baby and Daddy Bonding is a no brainer during diaper duty – although it probably isn’t anyone’s favorite task, every dad has their own unique way of making changing fun. Whether it’s silly faces, singing songs, making up voices, we are so excited to celebrate dads and show their special bonds with their little ones – particularly at changing time!
- Pampers Baby Dry diapers are enhanced with Extra Absorb Channels yet it is the same diaper you have come to trust to give your baby up to 12 hours of overnight protection. You’ll notice a nod to the Channel Innovation on the upper right hand corner of your Pampers pack.
- A Thicker Diaper Is Not A Better Diaper: Ordinary diapers get wetter and bulkier through the night, but Pampers Baby Dry provides up to 12 hours of protection and exclusive Extra Absorb Channels for a less bulky and more comfortable fit.
- Pampers diapers undergo extensive testing with pediatricians, dermatologists and moms to ensure products meet and exceed the needs of their most important customers – babies.
Baby and Daddy Bonding Tips: Take your BABY SWIMMING
A great way for Dads to bond with their babies is to take a swimming class with their baby and help them acclimate to the water, improve their muscle tone, coordination and mobility.
What babies will go gaga for: Splashing around in the pool playing with kickboards and noodles.
Parent perks: Great bonding experience; parents can help build up their baby’s confidence in the water, and socialize with other like-minded parents.
Baby and Daddy Bonding Tips: Have a Dance Party
Put that baby in a carrier and turn up the volume and JUST dance! Adam Ballard, had some fun on his own with his young son, Miles. Adam is a podcast host, and you might recognize him from his appearance on American Ninja Warrior. It turns out that his physical skills extend far beyond just maneuvering through obstacle courses. He’s got some dance moves. By proxy at least.
While wearing Miles in a baby carrier, Adam had his baby “dance” to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” Check out the video that the father and son duo made. Make sure to watch till the end because there isn’t just awesome dancing: you’ll see gravity-defying moves, air guitar, and even the moonwalk. Of course.
Baby and Daddy Bonding Tips: Take a walk and get your STROLLERCIZE on
Finally, a workout program for new parents that uses the stroller (while their baby is snug inside) as a fitness apparatus to get in shape. An ideal way dads to shed some baby weight, increase their energy and be with their children, all at the same time.
What babies will go gaga for: Watching their dads move and strut right before their eyes. Parents will get a cardio workout without having to pay a sitter, or experience separation anxiety. Check out the Web site for details about its certification program. Overall: Exercise that’s good for you and your baby.
