Back to School Fashions for Teens Styled by a Teen

September 10, 2017 by Melissa Chapman 26 Comments

It is truly GUT wrenching for me to even wrap my head around the fact that my daughter is 16, and she is entering her Junior Year of High school.  This year brings with it a myriad of new concerns and fears (on my part!). Of course the crazy thing about parenthood is that we essentially have these kids of ours on loan for a finite number of years and even then- they are not ours.

She is, as I've come to realize, her own very person and she has become a bit of a fashionista. She has this very strong sense of who she is, and her fashion aesthetic kind of blows me away. Her ability to put together different textures, colors and prints and make them work for her ( when I her mama have no innate sense of what to wear on any given day and just sort of stick with the pieces that are basic) she has found her unique voice through her fashion choices. And so without further ado- here are four outfits, for back-to-school Fall 2017 styled by Madison.

Whether it's middle school, senior year or stepping onto a college campus, the first day of school is exciting.  It's a chance for students to reinvent themselves, to get a fresh start with new goals and to make a new friend or two along the way. However, when the thrill of the first week fades and routines become mundane, the thought of waking up for class is one that many students dread. Of course one way to get your teens excited about going back to school is with some serious RETAIL THERAPY! And this back-to-school season, My 16-year old is sharing her back to school fashion where they can make a lasting first impression with the coolest looks for school this season.

Here are just a few of the awesome back to school duds your teen can snag for back to school ( which my teen is putting on her list!)

Get the look:  Pants: American Eagle  // Shirt:  Forever 21 // Watch: Armitron // Shoes:Steve Madden

Get the look: Flannel: Garage // Cami: Express // Pants: American Eagle // Bracelets: Alex and Ani // Boots: Bakers

Get the Look: Shirt: Kendall and Kylie // Shoes: Adidas // Jeans: Hollister

Get the Look: Pants: Charlotte Russe // Shirt: Alexander Wang // Necklace and Rings: Gorgana //Boots: Target

What a beauty. She looks absolutely gorgeous in all of her outfits. She has quite an amazing sense of fashion, too.

It’s really important that you allow them to pick their own clothes and let them express themselves! Time really flies though when you’re a parent. I love your daughter’s style!

I love when teens are able to express themselves when it comes to style. Sadly here all of our schools have a strict uniform policy, and the kids aren’t able to wear pieces that express who they are.

She looks great, such a fashionista. Its always important to make sure kids feel like they get a say and able to express themselves.

Cute clothes! It’s good to let them pick out clothes they feel comfortable wearing. Expresses their personality and shows who they are.

It’s fun to see what your kids like, as they get older and their individuality shines through in everything they do. My kids each definitely have their own unique style, as does your daughter. They grow up so fast!!

I’m pretty sure my husband would flip out if our daughter was a teenager and I let her outside the house in anything other than jeans and a sweatshirt. Lol. Luckily she’s only 2 months old, so he has time to come to terms with teen fashion.

Your daughter definitely has her own unique style. She is kind of a throw-back which is cool. Because in fashion, what is old is always new again. It is bittersweet to watch kids grow up. But then we can have some perspective on how our own parents felt.

It’s funny I have two little boys (4 and 2-years-old) but they both already like to pick out their outfits. They have their own sense of style and I like to encourage them to embrace that even if it means completely mismatched outfits.

My kids wear uniforms to school so sometimes they go all out when they dress in clothes they can choose and other times they look like they clearly never have to pick out their own clothes.

Your daughter has a great sense of style. By the time kids get into middle school (or before) letting them choose their own clothes is the only way to go.

Her style reminds me of Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why. I love that style, it’s comfy and laid back and it’s really perfect for going through a day of classes. She’s definitely owning her style, she looks great!

I have a 16-year-old, Junior in high school beautiful redheaded daughter too! It’s fun for me to see her develop her own fashion sense and pick out clothing which suits her taste.

Having cute clothes will definitely help with the self confidence that a lot of teens lack. I don’t think she is lacking, however! 🙂 I love all her picks!

Nice! My daughter, 6, started putting together her own clothes at age 5. I love her independence in doing so. Not a fan of every outfit, but her confidence made her feel good about her look. And, where confidence is built, I will not tear down for my own style visions.

I feel like it’s critical to be able to express yourself in the way that you dress. If you cannot express yourself with your clothes, your accessories and more so your hairstyles so to speak, then you feel like you’re being trapped or at least that is how I felt while in high school.

Your daughter is beautiful! I can’t imagine how challenging it is when girls are old enough to want to shop for themselves. My oldest daughter is eight and it already feels hard!
