Beauty Traditions and Self Care Tips I’m Passing Along to My Daughter is written in partnership with IVORY
After 17 hours of agonizing back labor, when the nurse laid my newborn daughter on my chest all wrinkled and crimson faced, she was the picture of beauty to me. Fast forward 17 years and when I look at her face now, dotted with a spray of freckles across the bridge of her nose, her hair a gleaming mix of strawberry bright orange highlights, gazing at her simply takes my breath away.
Unfortunately the inherent beauty I see in her being, which is so much more than what her facial features portray, is lost on her. Smack in the middle of teendom each day she seems to wrestle with feelings of inadequacy and as her mother- I work overtime to continually counteract her negative statements with positive ones. I’m also attempting to share my tried and true beauty secrets with her so that she can feel beautiful both inside and out. Beauty Traditions and Self Care Tips I’m Passing Along to My Daughter
One of the most important beauty tips I learned from my mom that I have made sure to pass down to my daughter is the importance of having a great cleanser and NO MATTER WHAT never go to bed without cleaning your face and taking your makeup off! Growing up we were an Ivory family and more recently began using their Body Wash. My favorite is the Chamomile my son likes Pear and Sandalwood and my daughter loves the sweet Pea and Lily. My mother trusted IVORY like family, and because IVORY was part of my beauty ritual growing up – it has been my go to for my daughter and son as well.
And to be honest IVORY’s new body wash has been invigorating my shower experience (and that of my daughter’s) and I have a feeling that its comforting scent is one my daughter won’t want to be without and is a shower and beauty experience that she will share with her daughter!
Why do we like IVORY?
Starting with the purest bar of soap 138 years ago, Ivory continues to uphold the standard of using only pure and purposeful ingredients in its products. Ivory created the first soap that was 99.44% pure and continues to make safe and gentle products for the whole family.
What is new about Ivory above and beyond the floating bar of soap we grew up with?
Ivory has launched its new Free and Gentle Body Wash with a gentle, pure formula free of parabens, dyes, harsh cleansers and excessive fragrances. The new Ivory body wash is specially formulated to match your skin’s pH – offering a nourishing, moisturizing clean that is also gentle for the whole family.
What is special about the new Ivory Body Wash?
The body wash contains the #1 dermatologist-recommended moisturizing ingredients. New Ivory Free and Gentle Body Washes are made with essential oils. The body washes come in three varieties including Pear and Sandalwood, Chamomile and Sweet Pea and Lily. They smell so good and fresh.
We have trusted Ivory for the 17 years we have had our kids and when it comes to passing on beauty rituals and traditions I never had a second thought about Ivory!
Another beauty tip I am passing down to my daughter is MOISTURIZER and sunscreen and how important it is that she uses both of these every day for the rest of her life. I know she thinks I am that super annoying mom who MAKES her slather up with these creams on a daily and nightly basis but when she is 45 like me- hopefully she will be THANKING ME for saving her skin.
I am also reminding my daughter that taking time for herself is NOT selfish. I am trying to instill within her how important it is to remember self-care and that while she is busy multi-tasking and doing so much that she not forget to care for herself (and get regular health checkups, eat right, practice mindfulness and take a personal spa day whenever she can with IVORY which is a great way to relax and reset after a busy day).
And of course part of the beauty secrets I am passing down to her are about helping her find her inner beauty and so I’m on a mission to do activities with my 17 year old daughter that will both empower, enlighten and recharge her spirit and sense of self.
We’re going to go on more hikes, ride bikes and challenge ourselves to do something unique like checking out an art exhibit we wouldn’t normally attend.
We are going to get involved in volunteering and helping others, like caring for shelter dogs; especially since the dogs don’t care if you come with messy hair and worn-out jeans.
I’m hoping all these experiences will ultimately teach my girl that what she does is FAR more important than what she looks like and I am so glad that IVORY can be my partner on this parenting journey.
