Thanks to Bucks County for Sponsoring our Family’s Road Trip
President’s week is almost upon us and that means it will be time for a road trip and lucky for you we are sharing The Best Road Trip Tips. And being that we are about to embark on a road trip to Bucks County–I figured it was time to tackle a subject near and dear to my husband’s heart– why he is SUCH a curmudgeon while on vacation (he gets mad but I usually refer to him as the late Andy Rooney while we’re vacationing– yes his eye brows could use a trim- and oh how he HATES buying any kind of beverage while anywhere other than a grocery store) and our family Road trips!
Me: Honey why do you always look like you’re constipated when we go on vacation?
The husband: As hard as I try to be fun on vacation, it goes against my nature to pay money on frivolous tourist traps and road trip service stops.
Me: But honey that’s what ALL vacations are–oh and how do you Try to be fun?
The husband:I try to take part in the kid’s activities and I try not to be bored all the time, it’s just hard work to be on a kid’s vacation.
Me: But honey you took a three hour nap on day two of our vacation?
The husband: I didn’t take a nap- I just closed my eyes and lied on the bed.
Me: Oh I thought that’s what a nap was–my mistake. So what really grind your gears about vacations?
The husband: I hate arcades; if I wanted to flush my money down the toilet I’d go to the bathroom. I hate spas– $49 manicures that are ruined in two days. I hate spending three dollars for a cup of soda, that’s all ice.
Me: Wow is there any vacation you’d feel comfortable taking- one that wasn’t trying to get you?
The husband: Not really.
The husband: Even though we had this big talk about how I was going to be fun, and I thought I could, it goes against my grain.
Me: Do you think most men would agree with your stance?
The husband: Yes, because they work hard for their money and they don’t like throwing it out at tourist traps. I went in knowing what I was getting into but I guess you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I guess it’s my cheap nature– what can I say.
Me: But of course we’re going to keep going on vacations regardless..right?
The husband: Yes because when you and the kids are happy then I’m happy–that’s what gives me joy, but it still hurts to pay three dollars for a cup of ice. So if you are about to embark on a summer road trip here are the five things you MUST bring with you and I hope you will follow along on our road trip to Bucks County this February!
Refreshing snacks and treats
The trip is going to long and everybody gets hungry at the wrong times and at different times. You need to be prepared with everybody’s favorite. Not only do they all have to like it but it can’t make you thirsty.
Keep your cut up fruits and vegetables in an Itzy Ritzy® Snack HappensTM Reusable Snack & Everything Bag in XOXO which works the best on the go to keep those tummies filled and able to push on.
A great smartphone
On your road trip you need a tricked out phone that will take the best pictures and that you can use to watch videos and view the pictures you have taken.
GPS and backup map
Although there are a lot of great Apps for helping you not get lost along the way there is no substitute for your GPS and an old fashioned map to fall back on and keep on the right track. This will prevent stress and arguments because nobody likes to drive an hour out of your way.
A good playlist
On your trip the old radio stations won’t come in and just will not cut it to pass away the long time in the car on your way. You have to bring some great traveling tunes and make it a fun jam session for the whole family to enjoy the ride.
Along the way someone is going to get banged, bruised, cut or come down with a minor malady so like a good boy scout be prepared for these situations with a First aid kit no matter where and how they come up. Nobody wants to drive 10 miles off the highway to find the nearest drugstore.
So good luck on the trip finding your way, keeping safe, staying nourished, being entertained and saving all those great memories and chcek out my TRAVEL itinerary thanks to Bucks County!
