My name is Mary-Ellen Rozak and I’m the NYC Area Coordinator for Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue (LLAR). We are located in Staten Island, NY and Cincinnati, OH.
Emily Gear, our director began rescuing animals after she adopted her first dog, Louie in 2006. At the time she was here on Staten Island. While she lived on Staten Island, she was the Curator of the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum. Emily built up her rescue efforts and incorporated LLAR in 2009. She has since moved back home to Ohio, where she has the space and ability to rescue full time.
I met Emily in 2006 while working on a project called Save Staten Island. We became fast friends due to our love of animals and stayed in touch after she moved back home. In 2010, after being a cat foster for LLAR, I was asked to be the Coordinator in our area. I live on Staten Island and am working on keeping the rescue alive on Staten Island and in areas, in and around New York.
Most of our animals are saved from local high kill shelters, and fostered in homes of our volunteers. The volunteers are our lifeline for the animals. They bring them back to health, socialize them, and get to know their personalities in order to assist us in finding the perfect forever homes for our pets.
To get things started, today I would like to introduce you to Jack and John. These two lovely boys are two years old and attached at the hip. We saved them for one reason only: they love each other! They are never far from each other and being in a shelter would not have guaranteed them a home together. Now they are in a foster home together and will be placed together to the right family who understands their need to be together forever.
All of our animals are altered, healthy, up to date on their shots and micro-chipped.
For more information on our rescue or on Jack and John, please visit www.louieslegacy.org or email mel@louieslegacy.org.
We are thrilled to be a part of this new website and will be keeping you updated on many of the events, rescue missions, our volunteer network and of course the animals themselves.
