Celebrity Hairstylist Jill Crosby Shares Tips for Styling Thinning Hair

November 13, 2014 by Melissa Chapman 2 Comments

I was recently invited to an event  by Women’s Rogaine®  at a NYC salon where I got the skinny on how Women’s ROGAINE® 5% Minoxidil Topical Aerosol   is helping women REGAIN the hair they have lost ( and imbuing them with a new-found sense of self and confidence) from celebrity hairstylist, Jill Crosby- because I wish it was there for my mom when she was younger.

Celebrity Hairstylist Jill Crosby Shares Five Tips for Styling Thinning Hair

EXPERT TIPS FOR STYLING THINNING HAIR  From Celebrity Hair Stylist & Spokesperson, Jill Crosby

Celebrity hair stylist and spokesperson, Jill Crosby is regularly sought out by clients and celebrities alike who look to her to help create fuller, more voluminous styles and has lent her talents to a wide variety of female celebrities from the worlds of Hollywood and music.

“I am among the up to 42 percent of women who will experience hereditary hair loss in her lifetime,” says Crosby. “As a stylist and someone who has made a career out of caring for hair, I’ve mastered styling tricks and techniques like creating texture and using the right styling tools to enhance my thin hair for fuller, healthy looking hair,” says Crosby.

An expert in styling thin and thinning hair, Crosby offers the following advice to her female clients with thin or thinning hair:

EXPERT TIPS FOR STYLING THINNING HAIR From Celebrity Hair Stylist & Spokesperson, Jill Crosby

Tips for Recognizing Thinning Hair

“Normally we lose between 50 to 100 hairs a day, but a consistent loss of 150 or more hairs a day considered significant hair loss.”
“The onset of female pattern hair loss can start as early as her 20s and prevalence typically increases with age.”

“Hair loss can come from either the mother or father’s side of the family and hair thinning can worsen over time.”

“Female pattern hair loss differs from male pattern hair loss. Women experience a general thinning of the hair, with the most extensive hair loss occurring on the top of their head and along the part. This often resembles an evergreen tree pattern.”

“There is a difference between hair loss and damaged hair. Damaged hair involves split ends and breakage, this is not considered true “hair loss.” Hair loss involves hairs falling out with the root attached.”

EXPERT TIPS FOR STYLING THINNING HAIR From Celebrity Hair Stylist & Spokesperson, Jill Crosby

Top Styling Tips for Thinning Hair

“For a permanent solution to hair loss that will not interfere with your styling routine, use FDA-approved Women’s ROGAINE® 5% Minoxidil Topical Aerosol once daily to regrow hair. Clinical studies show that with once daily use of Women’s ROGAINE® 5% Minoxidil Topical Aerosol for 24 weeks, 81 percent of women regrew hair, with initial results as early as 12 weeks and new hairs coming in up to 48 percent thicker than before. This elegant, foam formula quickly penetrates into the scalp so it won’t interfere with your hair style. There is no excuse not to use it!”

Harmful Habits to Avoid for Thinning Hair

“Allow your hair to dry a bit naturally before you begin styling your hair. Instead of wrapping hair in a towel turban, which can cause breakage, gently pat wet hair with a towel to soak up excess moisture.”

“Thinning hair is already fragile and can be further damaged by over processing, washing, brushing or combing. When brushing thinning hair, never pull or tug at the root and always use a wide tooth comb to or plastic brush with rounded tips (which is more gentle than sharp bristles) to reduce the amount of damage.”

“Women with thin or thinning hair should avoid using hair extensions to cover up thinning areas. What appears to be a ‘quick fix’ will only exacerbate the problem. Often times the pull from extensions can lead to further damage and can even result in traction alopecia, which can cause the hair to fall out after it has undergone increased tension and result in permanent scarring.”

“Avoid excessive use of curling irons, straighteners, or other tools as much as possible. When you do use heat styling tools, use a low to medium setting to avoid over drying. You should also cut down on frequent processing treatments and opt for a hair style that works with your natural hair type to avoid further damage.”

The elegant foam formula has a convenient once daily dosing so it won’t interfere with your styling routine. You can even use it in between shampooing to maximize your blowout longer.”

How-to-Apply Women’s ROGAINE® 5% Minoxidil Topical Aerosol

Step 1: “Rinse your hands in cool water to prevent your natural body heat from melting the foam.”

Step 2: “Part your hair to better expose the troublesome areas on the top of the scalp.”

Step 3: “Pump half of a capful of product onto a non-porous surface and take a little bit at a time and massage the formula into your scalp starting from the back and working your way towards your forehead. Make sure to apply the product directly to your scalp and not to your hair so that it can get to your hair follicles to help regrow your hair.”

Step 4: “Wash your hands, let it dry and continue styling your hair as usual. It is really that easy. By spending a little time each day applying the formula you can receive maximum results.”

Thinning hair is so demoralizing. I had a bad time of it (it has since grown back in, thankfully!) but I am so glad to hear of products like this. No woman should have to lose her hair.
