Encourage Your Kids to Pursue their Vision with #Visionworks

November 14, 2017 by Melissa Chapman 13 Comments

This post is written in partnership with Visionworks

I think for adults and especially parents- the reminder to pursue their vision often falls away when they're busy just trying to pay their bills, or not lose their cool when their kids plant themselves in the middle of the sidewalk and refuse to budge until they are promised a chocolate bar for dinner. To be honest I guess some of the passions I once harbored have fallen away- and at 44 years-old, I am ready to reclaim them…although I'll probably never be a dancer with the Alvin Ailey company, or appear on an MTV reality show- unless it's one for Mothers who've gone mad, and I'm probably not going to get to back-pack around Europe anytime soon. So I am on a MISSION to make sure my kids not only harbor a vision, but STICK with it and follow it through!

And as we close out another year I LOVE the idea of constructing a vision board as a fun way for parents to learn what's important to their children and help them pursue their current “vision” so that they don't LOSE their passion and to help stir ongoing family communications. Keep reading for how to make your own DIY vision board and the top five things you should use, before they're gone which includes your Vision Benefits !

Keep your kids from losing their passion with this DIY Vision board! What materials do parents and kids need in order to put their dream board in place?

Supplies Checklist
1. Poster board/oak tag
2. 4 thumbtacks
3. Elmer's glue
4. Scotch tape
5. Glitter
6. A photo or photos of you
7. Magazines
8. Ribbons
9. Pens, markers
10. Shells, leaves, or something else from nature
11. Scissors: straight edge or your favorite border design
12. Crayons
13. Few pieces of thick 8 1/2 x 11 paper and construction paper
14. Favorite rubber stamps
15. Your Ideas here

Age Appeal: Four years and older.

What kids will love about in creating and designing a vision board- and how will it help them to follow their passion- and give it a voice?

Using a scissor.
Working on something with their parents “being big girls and boys”
They'll feel important and heard.

Parent perks: Why should parents encourage their kids- to create a dream board–and participate in creating it with their kids?

They'll find things their children like to do that they may also enjoy. They'll build good supportive communication. And skills that may last a lifetime. They are bound to learn things about their children that they did not know. AND their children will learn the same about them. Once kids are done creating their own individual dream boards a family can work on a Family Vision Board.

And with 2017 coming to an end did you know there are several things that you could lose each year if you don't use them? Check out Visionworks list of the top five things you should use, before they're gone!

YOUR Vision Benefits – Visit your local Visionworks for an annual eye exam and pair of glasses before your FSA dollars or vision benefits go to waste!

End your 2017 year right by using your vision health benefits before the end of the year. Don’t let them
go to waste, take advantage of your insurance at your nearest Visionworks. Use them before you lose
them! REMEMBER–Your kids need healthy eyes to help them create their vision boards!

o Languages – The fastest way to lose the ability to speak a language is to stop using it
o Cognitive Ability – Use your cognitive capacity with brain games
o Muscles – Keep your muscles toned and strong with regular workouts
o Produce – Store your produce properly to keep it from turning brown

So how are you helping your kids pursue their vision?

Both of my boys are due for their yearly checkups in December. My oldest outgrew his glasses, but still needs yearly checkups to make sure everything is a-ok!

I think this is BRILLIANT! Kids could learn a lot from our missteps, opportunities missed, or “I’ll get to it tomorrow” thoughts. We should always want for our children to have better opportunities than we had

Vision boards are so helpful. Two years ago, almost everything on my husbands and mine vision board came true. It was wonderful. Encouraging children to live for their dreams is so important

Vision boards are awesome and they’re definitely a great way to help you plan your goals and achieve them. On top of that, it’s also very important to take care of your eyes and have them checked once or twice a year!

My husband is currently the only one who wears glasses. We will have to keep VisionWorks in mind for his next visit!

My daughter has been wearing glasses for about 3 years now. We got them from Visionworks. My son just got glasses about a month ago. We went to Visionworks for his as well.

Great idea to help kids make their own vision boards! I haven’t made one for myself in years and honestly didn’t think to do with my kids since they are still so young. But I might start busting out some glue and scissors! 😉

I love this idea! I think my oldest daughter would get such a kick out creating one of these.

This is such a great idea and I am glad to see that you can start young with these. I think even adults would do good from following a vision board.

This is such an important post! I grew up thinking I had perfect vision because my eye checkups were done by the school nurse my entire childhood. Then I grew up and got my own eye exam – I’ve been wearing contacts ever since!
