Most moms (including yours truly) will argue there’s never enough time to address the busy demands of day-to-day living; let alone find extra time to experience, indulge and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. That's why Yours truly has declared 2016 to be the year of putting MOMS first. Yes 2016 is all about indulging and yelling Carpe Diem and remembering that in addition to being a mother I'm also an individual who needs to treat myself every once in a while lest I turn into that Cat lady from the Simpsons. Luckily for me (and every other New York City adult who needs a little extra TLC) Residence Inn by Marriott, a brand that understands its guests’ busy schedules, will celebrate Leap Day – 24 hours of extra time – by taking over New York City to invite locals and tourists alike to experience free activities on February 29.
From an early morning “silent disco” yoga and dance party to an afternoon filled with playtime with puppies and pop-up pods to call loved ones, the upscale extended stay brand is helping New Yorkers maximize the extra calendar day. New York event attendees and social media followers ( of the hashtag #ExtraDayYourWay ) can look for surprises throughout the day, courtesy of Residence Inn by Marriott; Paul Mitchell, top professional hair care salon brand; and Kitchensurfing, on-demand private chefs.

Residence Inn understands its guests’ busy schedules, especially while on the road, and has selected Leap Day to demonstrate how each Residence Inn stay affords guests extra found time. As the leader in extended stay lodging, the brand offers time-saving signature amenities and services including: free grocery delivery; complimentary hot breakfasts; fully equipped in-suite kitchens; Paul Mitchell grooming products; convenient 24-hour markets; fitness centers and The Mix evening social events, all in a pet-friendly environment.
In an effort to help New Yorkers maximize 2016’s extra calendar day, Residence Inn will host the following series of free interactive events that will take place around the city.
1) 6AM – 10AM, Strike a Pose at Daybreak: Kick off the workweek with a complimentary yoga session and a legendary “silent disco” street party. While two DJs battle it out, use wireless headphones to dance to your favorite mix. Location: Flatiron North Plaza at 23rd Street and 5th Avenue
2) 7AM – 6PM, Ditch the Five-o’clock Shadow: Get groomed and primped with two mobile shave trucks that will offer hot shaves, massages, mini-manicures and shoe shines. The trucks will be parked in convenient city locations, so you can spend time on yourself – to feel and look good.
Locations: One World Trade at Vesey Street between Church & Broadway and Midtown at Sixth Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets
3) 8AM – 6PM, Phone a Friend: Been weeks since you've called grandma? Out of touch with college buddies? Residence Inn is installing comfortable calling pods in a convenient locale, so you can find the time to connect with friends and family.
Location: Columbus Circle (between Broadway and Central Park West)
4) 12PM – 4PM, Make Time for Puppy Love: Pet-friendly Residence Inn will host an incredibly cute afternoon puppy party. Come for a cuddle to de-stress, or take the love a step further… North Shore Animal League America will be on-hand to arrange adoptions.
Location: Residence Inn Midtown East (Street Level Lobby), 148 East 48th Street (between Lexington and Third Avenue)
The fun won’t stop in New York; the brand will launch a social campaign using the hashtag #ExtraDayYourWay to invite the public to share how they are taking advantage of the 366th day of the year. New York event attendees and social media followers can look for surprises throughout the day, courtesy of Residence Inn by Marriott; Paul Mitchell, top professional hair care salon brand; and Kitchensurfing, on-demand private chefs.
“Residence Inn understands that our extended stay guests are accustomed to life on the go, yet place equal value on work, home and fun,” said Diane Mayer, vice president and global brand manager, Residence Inn. “Our goal is to provide an opportunity for guests to thrive and experience the comfort elements of the modern home, as well as service and amenities that result in extra ‘found time’ to explore new surroundings and reconnect.”
Residence Inn, which created the extended stay lodging category, continues to introduce game changing industry direction for this segment. From new sleek branding to a chic updated lobby design, the brand evolves constantly to stay ahead of the curve and meet the needs of business travelers.

Omigosh, a puppy party! that is too fun!
With an extra day I’d sleep in. A nice luxe hotel stay sounds perfect.
OH YES! What Nicole said> an extra day to rest at a Luxe Hotel sounds amazing!
Hmmm – I’d take a spa day with my extra day (so says the mom who is prepping for 12 sporting events this weekend ) 🙂 Would love that ‘extra’ 🙂
