So far this winter season is shaping up to be a snow less one– it is till way too cold to traverse the playgrounds–although the frigid temps would not dissuade my six year old from playing on the slide if I gave him the green light. And sure I’d much rather be mixing margaritas and lounging on a chaise, while my kids run themselves ragged outdoors. But with my kids waiting restlessly to be entertained what’s a Staten Island mama to do with her brood during the wintry weekends of January and February? My plan: Devise indoor diversions on those winter days when being outside just won’t do.
So I’ll be getting crafty with the kids and of course we needed to hit up our local Duane Reade to stock up on every craft supply imaginable so that when the inclement weather passes, my kids won’t even want to step outdoors!

And for a look at all the items we bought and more crafty supplies check out my Duane Reade google + shop right here!
And here’s a list of a few HOMEMADE crafts we’ll be making with some of our finds at Duane Reade which will include
Body glitter: We will take aloe vera, essential oil and glitter. Put all of the ingredients into small bottles and shake well.
An ocean: We’ll use an empty baby-food jar, blue food coloring, small shells and sand. Then we’ll place a layer of sand at the bottom of the jar. We’ll add a thin layer of shells. Then we’ll fill the jar with water, add two drops of blue food coloring; seal the jar with a hot-glue gun and shake well.
We’ll make an ankle or hand bracelet out of bells. We’ll string the bells on brightly colored yarn and tie to the kids’ ankles and hands —for lots of jingling fun. Or we might try to make drums: We’ll use large empty coffee tins and fill with pasta, beans and rice and afterward, they can play their drums.
Edible bracelets: We’ll use some round gummy candy, lifesavers and small licorice rope. String the round, holed candy and through the licorice rope. Tie off for a sweet bracelet, necklace or ring.
