Tips for Making Weight Watchers Shakes Low Point

December 29, 2019 by Melissa Chapman 12 Comments

Ah, milkshakes. Sometimes the craving hits, but you probably don’t want to burn all of your points up on one from Sonic (38 points for a small). So here are a Tips for Making Weight Watchers Shakes Low Point while sharing one of my personal favorite recipes!  You can easily enjoy a good milkshake without using all of your points for the day!

How to Make Milkshakes Weight Watchers Friendly

Tips for Making Weight Watchers Shakes Low Point

If you are vegan, like I am, you can look for dairy free low point icecreams.  There are tons of options out there by Halo Top and other brands.  Just look for the ones that use sugar-substitutes and start scanning to find ones where the pints are under 10 SmartPoints for the whole carton. A Weight Watchers shakes base is typically almond milk, a low point ice cream, and sugar-free syrups of your flavor preference.

Favorite Low Point Ice Cream Brands

As you can see, Halo Top is a popular option, but it is not the only one on the market.  Below are some other choices for low point ice creams.

  • Breyer’s Carb Smart
  • Halo Top
  • Enlightened Ice Cream
  • Wink
  • Various store brands including Target, Aldi, and Kroger have their own low point ice creams

Use non-fat milk. Whether it’s dairy or not doesn’t matter as long as it’s fat-free and unsweetened so it’s not adding too many points. 8oz of unsweetened almond milk has 1 point, 8oz of skim milk has 3 points.

The bulk of your points will probably come from the ice cream you choose.

Most flavors of Halo Top ice cream are 6 points for a cup, so that is my ice cream of choice!
Fat-free, no sugar added ice cream is around 6 points for a cup.
Regular vanilla ice cream is 7 points for half of a cup.
Gelato is 7 points for half of a cup.

These points are all according to the WW app. Be sure to scan the ice cream you choose to use for an accurate point count.

Bananas are 0 points but if you blend them then they become high in points, so I use low point ice creams instead. I mean, make a milkshake with bananas or make a milkshake with actual ice cream? It’s a no-brainer! Plus, you can top your milkshake with banana chunks without adding points. Yum!

Halo Top ice cream was such a help when I was doing the Keto diet, too. I tried not to have desserts, but on the days where I was just really craving something, it really helped!
