I was all ready to take my place on the red carpet and interview as many celebs as I could manage to squeeze into a two second video interview (as their publicists quickly ushered them away)–during New York fashion Week. But as is so often the case- being a mother kind of took precedence. In other words having kids TOTALLY puts a crimp in my wanna be a New York City socialite galavanting at New York Fashion week kicking back martinis and glamming it up persona. What I really need is a much younger, unattached, hotter version of my 42-year-old self, who doesn’t need to do an emergency homework assignment or listen to kids practicing their piano like ” I promised”. This younger, much sexier version of myself, would also have NO problems staying up till 3 am at after parties, and drinking and partying like her plane was going down. Oh and this much younger version of myself would also have a boyfriend with a pied-a-terre in Manhattan.
But since the reality is that I’m a 42 year old married mama, with a MUCH older husband who is tucked in bed by 9pm sharp each night- with no machinations for securing me a pied-Ã -terre in Manhattan, nor accompanying me to any events that don’t include a bar stool and an HDTV where he can peer over my shoulder to check the score of whatever game is playing, and that getting into the city is more often than not harder to navigate what with the steady stream of guilt my kids lord over me. But this year I got a HAPPY surprise and invite thanks to my partnership with Verizon Fios – as part of their #whynotWednesday campaign I got an invite to check out Isa Arfen at New York Fashion Week ( with my 14 year old daughter in tow!- which lessened the guilt JUST A TAD!)
And this is just one of the reasons I am SO glad I made the switch to Verizon Fios— because they understand that their phones, cable and internet services are not just products, they are a part of my lifestyle choices! Just have a look at their fios lounge and you get the sense that this is a compnay that has their finger on the pulse of what their customers ( like me) need and want whether it’s INTERNET CONNECTIONS THAT ACTUALLY WORK IN THE KITCHEN ( that would be one of my needs!) or the ability to live stream from your phone or tablet ( also me) they truly get it and their #whynotwednesday campaign is all about sharing extra special experiences (like exclusive content from MADE that will highlight New York Fashion Week) that are made even better because of their exceptional service.
So while my mom duties precluded me from attending the dozens of shows and lounges I was invited to–meeting and mingling with Isa Arfen was one New York Fashion Week experience that I could NOT pass up- especially since they let me bring my girl too! Keep reading for all the luscious designs and Don’t forget to check out Verizon Fios for yourself here and join me for a Verizon Twitter Party Monday September 28th for #FiOSNY at 7pm ET!
Serafina Sama – creative director for Isa Arfen Spring/ Summer 2016 said the collection is based on an imagined journey through warmer climates creating an interchangeable capsule collection rooted in a desire for adventure.
The Journey begins with a palette of elegant monochrome. Loosely worn, boxy shirts in silk cotton poplin hint at the effortlessness of the Isa Arfen woman while asymmetric ruffles in peachy cotton provide a feminine flourish.
Hems vary from mini to midi to ankle; the culotte is replaced by the capri is washed shantung stopping just at the knee. Autumn/ Winter’s sharpe tailoring replenished with light, loose kimono overcoats, a further nod to a relaxed far Eastern influence.
For evening glamour is introduced through flashes of ciclaomino, clashed with khaki, whilst tropical florals screenprinted through silk cotton adorn an evening coat.
It was a joy to attend this show and meet Serafina Sama!
This post is part of my partnership with Verizon as an ambassador for #FiosNY but as is always the case all opinions expressed are my own.
So glad you were able to take part in NY Fashion Week! I would love to do that too, but honestly would feel like a fish out of water since I’m a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl for the most part. So cool that your daughter could attend with you as well.! Thank you for sharing!
You are the coolest mom ever! Love the fashion of both the show and you two!
Perfection that you attended something so chic with your daughter ~ what fun for you both! And just a great example, as you said, of choosing a brand that gets your lifestyle. Love this!
I SO love that you were able to take part, to enjoy guilt-free AND to bring your girl with you – what a treasured experience. The pictures are dynamite – it looks like you had a spectacular time.

What a fun show! Looks like you two had fun.
What fashionable fun! And that reminds me…I’ve totally been meaning to switch to Fios!
Always a mom first but I’m glad you got to experience a little piece with such a wonderful companion! You can still be fabulous, even if you’re in bed by 9 🙂
What a fun and fabulous partnership. You really can have it all…motherhood and a fab career.
My daughter would have been thrilled. You both look awesome! So cool that Verizon sent you to NYFW.
Melissa what a great wrap up of your attendance to the Isa Arfen fashion show! Sounds like you and Madi had a great time! Love all the green in this collection myself!
