Congrats to our winner Darlene Owen!
It's true I absolutely adore TARGET and could spend hours on end at their dollar bins and fill my house with all the delicious knick knacks one can ONLY nab at Target. So of course hearing about their recent community endeavors to strengthen our Staten Island community- well it just makes me love them all that much more. So what are the TARGET GODS doing right now to make Staten Island a better place to live? Keep reading!!
The Target School Library Makeover program is part of Target's ongoing commitment to education and is kicking off again this fall in schools across the country. Through the program, Target will make over libraries at more than 30 schools across the country this fall. Each remodeled library will receive 2,000 books, furniture, carpet and shelves, and a complete technology upgrade including new computers, smart boards and iPads. In addition, Target will award a $15,000 reading grant to all of the schools that have previously received a library makeover. This program is just one example of how Target is helping to address education challenges in America and put more kids on the path to graduation.
Why is this important? According to the most recent data by the U.S. Department of Education, one in four American children did not graduate from high school. As bleak as that may sound, research shows that if a student can read proficiently by the end of third grade, those odds decrease dramatically. Reba Dominski, director of community relations at Target, believes that through this program and others, Target hopes to inspire parents and caring adults like you and your readers to nurture a child's love of reading.
