since my daughter departed for Wisconsin – I finally realized that Raising Boys is Like Living in a Frat House. AKA I got a taste of what it is like to live in a testosterone fueled house.
I’ve laughed at memes that compare a boy mom’s life to living in a frat house and thought- aww c’mon it can be that different from living in a house with daughters!
But I honestly never realized how much my teen daughter’s mere presence helped to balance out the male energy.
(Yes she is THE ONLY one I’ve come to learn who actually notices that there are corn flake crumbs all over the floors. And rather than just crunch right through them she might actually -of her own volition-wet a paper towel and WIPE THEM UP!)
Since she has been gone I truly feel like I am living in a frat house.
Here are some interesting things I’ve learned about the male persuasion in her short absence and how Raising Boys is Like Living in a Frat House!
Raising Boys is Like Living in a Frat House!
#1 We have zero laundry in our basket. When my daughter is home I feel like the laundry is never ending. And yet in the few days she has been away- I’ve realized that without her clothes- our basket is EMPTY.
So each night I have to remind my son that, “no you can’t wear the same shirt you wore yesterday to sleep and then to bed. You must put that shirt in the laundy.”
I remind my husband of this every night as well.
#2 The competition is NEVER ENDING. It starts off with fantasy ball – with my husband and son vying to pick players with the best statistics, then it gravitates towards nightly jeopardy duels to the death, one on one basketball till I scream they need to stop.
Bottom line: I don’t want my husband to have a heart attack and finally ending with the two of them trying to compete for a spot next to me on the couch.
Not gonna lie- this fight for my love is really endearing!
#3 They will eat anything. Unlike my daughter, who needs and appetizers and a maincourse at the ready-my son can and will eat mac and cheese from a box and/or PB&J every night no questions asked.
In other words- food prep- like my daughter- is on vacation.
#4 THERE IS ALWAYS A SPORTS GAME ON. I never realized that you can watch sports 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
I never knew there were so many sports channels. I never knew people had so much to say about sports.
Whether it’s a game, a recap show, a pre show, a post analysis- FRIENDS NOW I KNOW… and don’t even get me started on sports video games and radio…
To the Moms of boys; yes you are strangers in a strange land-but it’s the best land you could ever have imagined.
With that being said…what are some of the things you’ve learned living in a land of all males all the time? aka do you agree that Raising Boys is Like Living in a Frat House!
