When you make the decision to become a parent, it requires you to take many great leaps of faith; and at the end of your nine-month journey, you hope to be blessed with a baby that is practically perfect in every way.
So when a parent is told her child has some form of mental disability, it sends her life in a tailspin. And yet, that “special needs” label doesn't diminish the immense love she feels for him. As far as she's concerned, regardless of what his specific abilities are, he is perfect.
So if you're looking for a place to bring your diffrently abled children where you can deeply exhale, safe in the knowledge that these establishments will welcome their kids with open arms, where you won't have to file any paperwork or be put on a waiting list, your best bets are the following events, which are staffed with professionals that won't cringe if your child has a meltdown, or needs extra support with an activity
The Staten Island-based Families Helping Families is all about joining with families of special needs children, spending a wonderful fun filled, judgment free day. Where there is no need to worry if your child melts down, because we've all “been there, done that”!
