The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. ~ Gandhi

It is hard to put into words the tireless efforts Louie’s Legacy does simply because they believe animals deserve the same kindness and love as the rest of us. My ShihTzu Lazer was rescued almost five years ago, alone and scared in a Brooklyn shelter, sick and full of physical and mental wounds.

The Sunday Swoon: Support Louie's Legacy and Save Shelter Pups and Cats

The volunteers at Louie’s legacy were unable to pass him over- they were unable to let him be put to death. So they rescued him- with no real idea if or when he would ever be adopted and his wonderful foster  Elaine Perlin, took in his mangly mess and loved him. Lazer is one of hundreds of animals that Louie’s Legacy has rescued, has fostered and has paid for their medical bills. This is just WHAT THEY DO. They are the most selfless and wonderful loving bunch of human beings that I’ve ever had the honor of befriending.

I think the best thing I can do is get in on the “ground floor” of my children’s lives when they’re young and impressionable and just beginning to understand the importance of helping someone else, and get them volunteering. To help your family do the same, one Staten Island organization bound to awaken your child’s passion for volunteering is Louie’s Legacy. Did I happen to mention that I’m their VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR and you can fill out an application to start volunteering here  http://www.louieslegacy.org/home/volunteer ( and your kids can get community service hours?!)

This is Frannie ♥️ and she's just as beautiful and sweet as I imagined. I can't help but tear up knowing this girl has known no love her life. Her life consisted of producing puppies, and when they didn't need her anymore she was dumped. Despite her past, she's so sweet and trusts. That's why I like dogs more than most people ? Frannie looks like a mini chocolate lab at only about 30 lbs.... she will be ready to go to her #fureverhome next weekend! Your new life starts TODAY Frannie ♥️ #adoptme #labmix #foster #adoptdontshop #throwawaymama #rescuedog #louieslegacy

I love this so much! There are so many dogs and cats out there who need a forever home. I think it’s really important to adopt whenever possible.

Sounds like this is going to be a wonderful gala! Anything to do with pets I am totally on board with. If it was up to me I would probably only an entire farm of different animals. We just got a new dog ourselves. Although she was not from the pound that she was from a family that could not take care of her anymore.

Thank you for getting awareness out there. We have always chosen to rescue our furbabies and we will continue to do so.

It is so much better to adopt a new furbaby. There are so many sweet little souls that need a home. This sounds like a great organization.

I would love to go to this Gala if I was closer. I try to volunteer at our local animal shelter as often as I can.

What a great organization. I hate to see any animal suffer and they all deserve love. Our pets are both rescues.

This sounds amazing! What a difference for that little dog at a loving home. People should totally learn and look into adopting and not shopping when it comes to their pets.
