October is always a tough month for me.
Not only is it my mom’s birthday month but, it was also the month she died. How coincidental that National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also October. While my mother is no longer physically here with us, she’s been filling our kitchen and our hearts with her cherished recipes through my blog, My Judy the Foodie. Her love of cooking and home-cooked meals brought so many people together around our family table.
Together, let’s try to give back using some of her most celebrated recipes. I’m sure you’ve been hit over the head with PINK-washing. Everyone’s wearing pink–even football players are wearing pink socks. But, how much of that awareness actually translates into hard dollars dedicated to breast cancer research?
This year, I’m beyond proud to announce the 2nd annual breast cancer cause-marketing campaign my sister and I created called: BAKE IT HAPPEN™. The premise as simple as it is tasty and fun: Just head over to Bake it Happen and sign up to receive Judy’s celebrated recipes for her Pumpkin Brownies, Earthquake Cookies and Black Bottoms. Then, all we want you to do is to bake them, put one of our logos on your packaging, and then share your tasty baked goods with everyone, everywhere:At your son’s soccer game, at your board meeting, at church, at synagogue, at the gym, with your neighbors!
Don’t forget to snap a photo of your Bake it Happen experience. It could be a picture of you baking, your kids baking, a picture of your baked goods, a picture of people enjoying your goods. When you upload your picture to Bake it Happen on Facebook or tag your post with #bakeithappen–or if you’re not on Facebook, you can email your picture to bakeithappen@gmail.com–you’re automatically entered in to win a brand new IPAD and a 3-months mini-of-the-month membership from Baked by Melissa.
But, it gets even better than that. We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation! The PPPF works with America’s pumpkin growers who have committed to giving a percentage of proceeds from every pink pumpkin sold this year to organizations involved in breast cancer research.
100% of the monies raised from Bake it Happen™ 2014 will get funneled directly to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation who will then award one grant to an organization dedicated solely to breast cancer research.
I hope you’re inspired to help us Bake it Happen and spread the baking love until the end of the month
I promise it will be fun, tasty, and rewarding at the same time.
So, what are you waiting for?
