If you know me, you know that I am a big animal lover– especially when it comes to my almost 14-year-old Shih Tzu, Mellie and my three and a half year old Rescue Shih Tzu Lazer who I adopted thanks to Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue! I am their number one fan… almost stalker! Louie’s Legacy is currently facilitating pet adoptions and even does some training with them before they go to their new homes to ensure they will be well behaved. All their dogs and cats are Saved from being put to sleep and all are looking for their FUREVER HOMES! In Staten Island NY, the adoptables of LOUIE’S LEGACY can be seen on Saturday at PETSMART on Forest Avenue from 11-3 and on Sunday alternating at PETCO on Veterans Rd from 12-3. PETCO on Richmond Ave from 12-3!!
And keep reading for a couple Do’s and Don’ts for families this holiday season when it comes to taking care of your pets and if you are ready to give a furry friend their FUREVER HOME please check out Louie’s legacy Animal Rescue! MY son finally has his brother!
The holidays are here and not only does it bring joy to everyone, but some chaos as well. So make sure this holiday you don’t forget about your beloved pets.
With guests going in and out of the home make sure your pets are safe away from running out. There is nothing wrong with putting your dog on a leash when company comes in and when they leave.
Keep an eye on your dogs around the christmas tree and other holiday items. A curious dog can easily chew through Christmas lights, or other decorations.
Poinsetta plants happen to be extremely poisonous to dogs, so make sure if you do have them that they are in a safe high up place where they cannot be reached.
There’s nothing a child enjoys more than spending time with their beloved pets around the holiday, but don’t get wrapped up and leave your child and dog unattended. We always need to remember that a dog is still an animal and kids will be kids.
As for those of you looking to acquire a dog this holiday season, I am not going to tell you how it is a bad idea to get a dog for christmas, I am just going to steer you in the right direction.
Getting a dog for the holidays always makes it that much sweeter, there is nothing a child wants more than to have a dog or cat sitting under the tree on christmas morning. What we need to keep in mind is that irresponsible people prey on this around the holiday. They know you are going to want to get a nice puppy as a present for your children; I am not writing this to change your mind if you have your heart set on getting a specific breed or age of dog- I just want you to be aware of ALL your options!
Adopt from the local AC&C located on veterans road. Visit petfinder.com where millions of rescue organizations list pets for adoption. Check the web and sites like www.louieslegacy.org/adopt where people give up wonderful dogs everyday. There are many other options.
Lastly, if you can’t find exactly what you are looking for then do your research and find a reputable breeder.
If the breeder asks as many questions as you, then you may have found a good one. They should show a lot of concern for where their dogs are going.
In the event you don’t have the time or patience to find a dog, GO TO www.louieslegacy.org/adopt they offer adoption services and will locate what you are looking for!
A dog and or cat is a big commitment so make sure you are ready, your children are ready and take your time to make the right choice.
