Gourmet Peppermint Hot Cocoa
1/3 cup unsweetened quality cocoa powder (Dutch processed)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 cups whole milk
2 cups half-and-half
1 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey
Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
1/2 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Pure Peppermint Extract
1/4 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Pure Chocolate Extract
Directions
In a medium saucepan, combine cocoa powder, sugar and salt. Place over medium-low heat and gradually whisk in milk and half-and-half until combined. Heat to serving temperature, stirring occasionally, do not boil. Stir in pure vanilla, peppermint and chocolate extracts. Before serving, top with a Vanilla Bean Marshmallow. For an extra blast of peppermint, drop a peppermint candy in the bottom of each mug before serving, peppermint stir sticks and spoons dipped in melted white chocolate or milk chocolate chips.
Party Favors: Keep the peppermint theme going with party favors your guests will love. Put two candy canes in the shape of a heart and melt chocolate in the middle to make a peppermint sucker. Wrap in seasonal cellophane and add to goodie bags filled with Allergen-Free Peppermint Patties or Classic Holiday Sugar Cookies.
Décor: Get crafty and make a wreath out of candy canes to get guests in the holiday spirit as they walk in the door. Later, serve Peppermint Mocha Panna Cotta in martini glasses. Line the rims with crushed peppermints and tie tinsel around the stems for an extra festive flair.
