How to adjust your parenting style to your child’s need
Sometimes we create an image of an ‘ideal parent’ in our heads and want to follow it carefully. An ideal parent should be loving but demanding, affectionate, but a little reserved … the list of traits can be endless. But … does it all even matter? When it comes to raising children, everything can change. Every kid is different and has individual needs. Some kids need a really demanding mum or dad to grow up properly; others need a lot of affection and emotions. How to adjust the parenting style to your child’s needs?

How to adjust your parenting style to your child’s need
Listen to your kid
Listening is the key to any relationship. It’s not possible to have a conversation, not to mention a successful relationship without really listening to each other. Try to pay attention to what your kid tries to tell you. These may be even body language signs – pay attention to them! They will tell you everything. For example, a child who needs affection and attention will want to cuddle often.

Talk to the child
Many parents think that a deep, meaningful conversation is impossible with a child. But why? A child is an intelligent creature. They may know and understand even more than you think. If you have problems with grasping the idea of what they need, talk to them! Try to use clear, understandable words and ask simple questions – for example, don’t say “Do you need more attention?”. Try to ask: “Should I spend more time with you at weekends? Give them a choice. For example, let your kid decide if they want to play on their own or to use commercial playground equipment.
Consult a specialist
If you feel you have a problem with your child and you can’t communicate well, consulting a specialist is always an option. It can be a child psychologist or therapist. First, you can go for an appointment on your own, and present the problem. The next step is a visit with your child. Sometimes the problem is so deep that a person that’s close to the kid cannot see it.
We all should keep in mind that communication is the key in the family. It allows building healthy, strong relationships with respect towards everyone’s needs. Remember that your child may have a totally different picture of the situation than you have. Try to talk, listen and understand, and you’ll form a happy, loving family altogether.
