You can live everyday like it’s EARTH Day- especially if you win our MEGA seventh generation giveaway!

August 2, 2012 by Melissa Chapman 114 Comments

Congrats to our winner MONICA!

Sure you can get all pumped up about Earth Day when it’s the cause du jour…but once the pomp and circumstance fades away- it truly is up to each and every individual to keep on their personal mission to do everything in their power to reduce their carbon footprint. And no I am not a crunchy granola, TEVA wearing, only organic eating, completely BPA free vegan.

Rather I consider myself a middle-of-the road greenie– and every day I’m trying to get closer to my goal of consuming less and being more mindful of my waste. And reminding myself that life’s precious moments- the things I’ll value most are those intangible moments; my conversations, my relationships and ultimately not my stuff. And in that respect letting go of the stuff has been easier- and each time I adopt a greener way of life- and rid myself of excess stuff- I  truly feel lighter on both a physical and emotional level.

So what am I doing everyday to make it an Earth day?   Each day I try to consume less eneregy; I make fewer loads of laundry and  use the natural sunlight as opposed to my lightbulbs. I NEVER use plastic plates, cutlery and cups and I as I bite into yet another piece of eggplant I  remind myself that eating less meat is oh so much better for the planet.

Feeling as strongly as I do about lowering my   carbon footprint when I was asked to giveaway  Seventh Generation’s New Line of Biobased Baby Personal Care Products well it was a NO BRAINER. Anything I can do to decrease my   eco-footprint is a cause I am incredibly supportive of and the fact that a huge company like Seventh Generation (a product I use ANYWAY ) is behind this- well it made it that much sweeter. With their   complete line of USDA certified biobased baby personal care products, made mostly of plant-based ingredients you can give your child’s skin the natural love it deserves. The  new biobased certification label  discloses the percent of renewable carbon (i.e. natural plant and marine elements) in products versus petroleum (a non-renewable resource). Seventh Generation chooses ingredients that make for a highly natural product with excellent performance. Seventh Generation also follows the precautionary principle, meaning they won’t use an ingredient in their products until they are sure it is safe for consumers.

And the best part I am giving away their entire line   of baby personal care products, including Baby Shampoo & Wash, Foaming Baby Shampoo & Wash, Baby Lotion, Baby Bubble Bath, Baby Sunscreen and Diaper Cream.  These products range in price from $7.99 – $13.99, and will be available July 2012 at stores such as Walgreens/Duane Reade, Target and even grocery stores, including Whole Foods.

I just tried Seventh Generation Diaper Cream, Baby Bubble Bath and the Shampoo/Wash combo – love the idea of supporting this company while caring for my boys with effective but gentle products. Since I am “that” Mom, the one chasing and holding her kids down to apply sunscreen no matter where we are, I will say the baby item I must have is sunscreen. Can’t bear the thought of that beautiful baby skin getting burned! Excited to have a chance to win these excellent products – thank you!!

I can’t live without coconut oil for baby related care. I use it on my body postpartum, on my raw nipples while nursing, on baby instead of lotion, and it makes an excellent diaper rash cream!
