How to Get Started Doing What You Can When You Can #WYCWYC

May 7, 2015 by Melissa Chapman Leave a Comment

If anyone of you has followed my journey from 142 pounds to my current weight of 120 you know that one of the main themes behind my weight loss was a real lifestyle change. It was not about doing things quick or rashly ( just so I could gain the weight back when I resumed a NORMAL eating pattern) rather it was about taking small and doable steps to try and be more healthy.

How to get started doing What You Can When You Can #WYCWYC

The goal was not to be skinny- it was and still is to be healthy and not feel like I am dragging my ass behind me, or getting winded from walking up a flight of stairs. Which is why I LOVE the brand new book What You Can When You Can (#wycwyc). This book – is NOT JUST A BOOK-it is a movement, a mindset and a lifestyle–one that harnesses the power of small steps to let you achieve your health and fitness goals on YOUR terms.

The #wycwyc (pronounced “wickwick”) philosophy applies to anything and everything that contributes to a healthy, happy life: nutrition, exercise, physical and mental rejuvenation, and so much more.

So are you ready to get started? Keep reading for Authors Carla Birnberg and Roni Noone‘s Tips!

A few weeks ago our book came out to tremendous fanfare (from my mom) and wide acclaim (from Venus Williams who we still cannot believe blurbed our front cover).

Everyone in our immediate tribe understood how to jump on board and get started with #wycwyc (prounouced wickwick) as we’d been preaching this approach to life for a while now.

Others, while ready to dip their toes into the wickwick! way of life, wanted a little more information before they bought the book and plunged in.  So without further ado here are 3 Steps to getting started on the #wycwyc mindset:

#1 Start. Yep. It’s that simple. However “starting” might look for you. Ten more steps today than you took yesterday. If you’re feeling adventurous perhaps add in 100! Order a salad when you hit the drive-thru alongside your burger and fries. Power down all the electronics a little earlier tonight than you normally do. Take this time to focus on relaxing before bed and ensure better sleep. However you choose to do it—take today and START.

#2 Find your tribe. What You Can When You Can is a book and a podcast but more importantly it’s a movement. We’re already chatting away on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr etc. Take a moment today (theres that start! again), do a search of the #wycwyc and see what you discover. Think about what motivates you (words, images, quotes, longer updates) & find the WickWickers active on that social media platform.

#3 Celebrate. Acknowledge. Now that you’re started, stop each morning – – or evening if you’re a night owl – – reflect on your day and pay attention to what you’ve done worth celebrating/noting.
Hint: there’s always something. Start viewing each day through the lens of: What am I doing now or today that I may never have thought of before I began doing what I can when I can? Count those baby steps and pause to share them so others may applaud you, too.
