The weather is starting to get a little nippy and a bowl of a hot, hearty soup tastes great right about now to warm up the whole family.

This Dump and go style Instant Pot Split Pea Soup includes ingredients that are all on the weight watchers Blue ZeroPoint list (vegetarian version) and it Freezes well too.

I love that you can make it in your Instant Pot and in literally 30 minutes you will have enough soup to last for at least three meals!

Keep reading for our recipe for this Dump and go style Instant Pot Split Pea Soup

Dump and go style Instant Pot Split Pea Soup

Ingredients: All the ingredients in this Dump and go style Instant Pot Split Pea Soup are zero points -such each serving is zero points!

1 pound split green peas rinsed
7 cups water or broth
1 1/2 cups diced onions
1 -2 cups diced carrots
1 -2 cups diced celery
3 cloves garlic minced
3 bay leaves
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black proper

Split Pea Soup Directions

• Add all ingredients to the pressure cooker pot and briefly stir them together.
• Secure and seal the lid. Cook at high pressure for 15 minutes, followed by a 15 minute natural release. Manually release remaining pressure.
• Uncover. Remove the bay leaves.

This recipe makes six servings. Each serving is a little less than 2 cups per serving and we had 3 1/2 tupperwares ready to freeze.

Notes: I added a little bit more water almost 8 cups this time because it was so thick. But that’s a preference on How people like the consistency of their split pea soup. You can also add a protein or even marrow bones if you don’t want it vegetarian.

Recipe Notes

Notes: I added a little bit more water almost 8 cups this time because it was so thick. But that’s a preference on How people like the consistency of their split pea soup. You can also add a protein or even marrow bones if you don’t want it vegetarian.

So can you still make this on the stove top?  Yes but with a few additions – you need to use 2 teaspoons of oil and sauté the garlic /onion about 5 mins and then add carrots/celery /peas/liquid/etc. When you make it on the stove top you should usually pre soak overnight but for the instant pot you can just rinse. Cooking times will vary but I would say at least two hours after it comes to boil & then lower the heat because otherwise the peas could be too hard. That’s the reason I love the instant pot because I don’t sauté anything and I don’t have to presoak And I just dump it in. I don’t think the negligible oil is anything to worry about for points value but for me it’s just so much easier in the instant pot.

For soups you cannot beat an instant pot! I don’t like to have to presoak but I find if I don’t that sometimes it stays forever on top of the stove. The only thing on the stove that’s easy are lentils but beans and split peas in the instant pot is the best!

I also love getting creative in the kitchen.  Trying to follow the WW Blue Plan means I need to get a bit more creative sometimes to satisfy my cravings without going over my daily points.  This recipe is just one example of how you can adapt your cravings to fit your points.

Soups are definitely one of my new favorite bases for recipes.  They fill me up without a ton of points.  Below are links to some of my other favorite recipes for you to try!

For prep time can I substitute canned beans for this recipe? What beans would you recommend? Would I need to make any other adjustments? Thanks.
